Plain Jane Ch 7&8
56Chapter 7 Copyright Jean Braun 2010
Twice in one
day? Thought Jane. How can this happen?
The blond man named Gary, twilled Jane around. She came
up short and slammed into his chest. "Um sorry, but I really don't know
how to dance." as she looked up into a face with a strange smirk.
Gary just shook
his head, what would he expect from such an awkward girl as Skylar's cousin.
But he was hoping she would have seen him with Jane and maybe, hopefully, feel
jealous. Now he felt just a little guilty. This girl truly was an innocent....
hummmmmn.
"Just hold onto me. I will show you some new moves." As he pulled her
closer and whispered in her ear. "Just follow me."
"I know you are too young to be involved in your family’s business, lad.
But Jane, she has been thru a lot. You may not have known that, but now you
do... So, I wonder, what do you really think of our Jane..."
Skylar now had climbed up on a barrel standing close to the barn... She just
had to listen.... and she could not quite hear what Christopher was saying. She
leaned closer, and closer. When suddenly, she found herself .....
FALLLLLLLINNNNNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!! Oh CRAP!!!!! She yelled out.
The two men came running around to the side of the barn only to find poor
Skylar with her white dress on, covered in well... muck. O' Rielly stifled his
smile quickly, hoping the girl had not seen it. After all she was the boss’s
daughter. Christopher actually bit down on his tongue. O' Rielly recovered
first. "Christopher," he whispered, "Please go get Jane. She
will know what to do." As he reached carefully down to pull the girl up.
Maybe, this is what this girl needs, to see our kind Jane at work.
The music stopped and Jane found herself quite breathless. She looked at the
man whose strange smirk now turned into a genuine smile.
"See? You are a natural." As he took her by the hand and took her to
punch bowl, handing her a cup. Jane gratefully took it and started to sip on
it. She looked up to see a rather excited looking Christopher coming towards
her. Why was her heart beating so fast? She thought as a slight blush started
to rise across her cheeks. Gary
noticed it and then narrowed his eyes a bit as he saw this man that his Skylar
was flirting so shamelessly with earlier coming towards him.
Christopher just reached out and grabbed Jane by the arm. "Miss Jane,
Please. We need your help."

Jane’s P.O.V.
Christopher grabbed my arm and I started to feel a sensation of dizziness and I almost couldn’t breathe, I could hear the loud thumping of my heartbeat in my ears and it almost drowned the sound of Gary saying he was coming to...wherever Christopher was dragging me too. Christopher slowed down as we reached the back door and I finally remembered what he had said.
“We? Who needs help?”
“Skyler.” He said without looking at me. I felt my stomach drop and I suddenly felt like Jane compared to Miss Blanche Ingram. She was beautiful and I was...well plain.
“What happened?” I asked trying to keep my voice from cracking, I only slightly managed.
“She...” he seemed trying to find the right words “fell.” He turned a corner and dropped my wrist and I saw Skyler, crying slightly and her white dress covered in muck and Mr. O’ Rielly trying to calm her down. I dropped next to her, not caring about my own outfit and pulled out a hanky to wipe her eyes and face. She sniffled and thanked me I helped her up and, ignoring anyone who might have been staring, helped her upstairs and to her room to clean her up.
O’ Rielly’s P.O.V.
When Jane came and immediately knelt down in the muck with Skyler I saw Christopher’s eyes fill with different emotions. Gary seemed to be intently watching Skyler; it seemed his feelings haven’t gone away since the breakup.
Jane helped up Skyler and left without giving the boys another glance. Gary sighed and left to join the party again slightly, but Christopher stayed there, he seemed to be in deep thought. I turned to get back to my work but Christopher’s words stopped me.
“You asked how I feel about Jane didn’t you?” he said I tilted my head to look back at him, but found myself surprised when I saw him still looking at the ground. I nodded slightly. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
“I don’t know emotions very well, so I am not sure, all I know is that she is very different than anyone I have ever met. I do feel bad that she hates me after knowing my last name.” he smiles slightly but then frowns “But I do not know how to make her trust me, its irritating really, I thought she liked me, but I tell her my name and she runs away crying.”
“I’m wondering, you seem to know Jane very well and if you would help me gain her trust I would be eternally grateful.” He said still looking at the ground, I thought about it and realized he really did love her, even if he didn’t understand the feelings, and she needed someone that would bring kindness to her wounded heart. I walked over to Molly and petted her muzzle.
“First things first, you can’t earn Jane’s trust without Molly’s trust.” Christopher lifted his head and smiled. He came over and reached out to touch Molly, but he reached too fast and Molly threw her head back and whinnying.
“Your approaching too fast, you need to be calm and careful. Molly is frightened easily and will run if you make the wrong move” I was telling him about Molly, but I was also telling him about Jane.
“One wrong move and she will never talk to you again.” I told him.

Jane now had poor Skylar in the bathroom helping her get cleaned up. "Just look at me, Jane." Skylar wailed... "I am a mess. And now Christopher and Gary saw me.... Whatever am I going to do?" Jane just gave...
Great story.
Okay! This is where I left off. I have so much to catch up on!.... I really do like Jane. And I love that Christopher wants to get on Jane's good side. I can see that he likes her already. :-)

Look, I've caught up with Plain Jane. Yes! Jane is so caring. She jumped right in to help her cousin who treats her so badly. Good girl.
